1. Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are diseases characterised by lower airway obstruction, with breathlessness as a frequent symptom. COPD is the cause of Type II Respiratory failure. Upper airway obstruction also leads to Type II Respiratory failure.
